Frequently Asked Questions
-
We have students of all ages. Most of our younger students start on piano as it builds a solid musical foundation to build piano skills or for vocal or other instruments later on. Many of our older students are also in their schools' orchestra, band or choral programs. Lessons at MAI provide them a dedicated instructor to help them grow as performers.
We also have many adult learners who love music. Whether you sang in college, played the cello in high school or just want to learn the harp for the first time, MAI has a lesson for you.
We even have dance lessons for preschoolers, which helps build rhythm and musicality for the younger bodies who want to wiggle.
So, if you or your student is somewhere between the ages of 3 and 103, MAI is the place for you.

Teachers set their own rates for private lessons, but the costs are about $30 per 30-minute lesson. This can vary a few dollars in each direction, depending on the teacher. Our contracts are for 30 lessons per school year. MAI also has a $100 administrative fee which helps us keep our lights on. Vocal students will also have accompanist fees for recitals and contests.
Our children's choir, the Young MAIster Singers, and our dance classes have a flat annual fee, which can also be paid monthly.
Thanks to generous donors, our harp, percussion and jazz ensembles and group theory/composition class are provided to our students enrolled in lessons at no additional charge.
-
We never want to turn anyone away due to a lack of resources. MAI is fortunate to have very generous donors who fund our scholarship program for students with demonstrated need and talent. There is an application process. You can learn more at musicartsinstitute.org/scholarships. Even if our priority deadline has passed, we will continue to accept applications as our funding allows.
-
Our teachers set their own schedules. We have lessons every weekday but Friday, when we are closed. We encourage early enrollment to have the most options for lesson times, but please check with us at any time. There is likely still availability for whatever you or your student would like to study.
-
We accept payments annually or semi-annually without any additional fees. Monthly payments will incur a service charge. However, we spread those payments out over 12 months versus nine to help give our families a lower monthly cost. Monthly payments are due on the 1st and will incur a late fee if paid after the 15th of the month.
