Study at Music/Arts involves much more than a weekly lesson. Students have access to recitals, master classes, fesitvals and ensembles and benefit from MAI's reputation as a regional leader in arts education excellence.
The Millicent A. Daugherty Community School of the Arts
Our instructors are professional performers and highly-qualified educators who teach only their primary instruments.
MAI offers professional-level children's choir, ethnic drum ensemble and harp ensemble in addition to music theory, beginning rhythm and vocal coaching programs.
Your support ensures the tradition of excellence that has lived at Music/Arts for more than three decades will continue for years to come.

The month of April is full of musical opportunities, from All-District and All-State solo and ensemble competitions, to the final performances of another school year. At Music/Arts we are busy preparing our students to meet their school obligations and are putting the finshing touches on our own Ensembles Showcase, Sunday, May 4.
We are also looking ahead to October 10 and 11. MAI is pleased to announce that international opera star and alumnus (student of Millicent Daugherty) Ryan MacPherson will join us as the featured artist for our annual Gala, Friday night, October 10. It promises to be a night to remember! The following day, we celebrate our building (the former McCoy Elementary School) serving education for 100 years with a centennial open house, alumni choir performance directed by UMKC Emeritus Professor Dr. Eph Ehly and much more.
Contact the office (816) 836-1998 for more information on these events and continue to watch this site for information as it becomes available.
These are exciting times for Music Arts Institute - The Millicent A. Daugherty School of the Arts.
We continue to feel the spirit of Millicent and all those who have worked hard in the past to build better lives for our students through quality instruction in the arts. And we carry that legacy forward.
As we turn the page on the future we are set to expand and grow those opportunities. Our Executive Director, Mark Lee brings a wealth of experience in music and management and Chairman of the Board James Lyen has the visionary and business background to keep our eyes on the future. Program Director Jon Donald continues to develop classes, programs and events to benefit Music/Arts creatively and financially.
On behalf of our instructors and our board of directors, I welcome you to a wonderful place...the music filled halls of Music Arts Institute.
