The Millicent A. Daugherty Community School of the Arts at Music/Arts Institute is a community-based music, dance and arts academy for students with the passion to grow. Founded in 1979, our dedicated instructors and program directors give young artists the technical and performance training they need to unlock their potential. Private Lessons

Our dedicated faculty provides individual technical and performance training with a classical foundation to help young musicians develop their talents. Students gain confidence to pursue excellence in contests, build a life-long enjoyment of music, or even advance their aspirations for a career in music.

Group Ensembles

For students looking to broaden their experience by performing in an ensemble focused on music or dance, we offer a variety of programs to help them grow. Ensembles are formed for each academic year, from September to May and perform across Kansas City at amazing venues and events.

GCB Academy

The George Caleb Bingham Academy at MAI, is a free Summer immersion program giving high school students an opportunity to explore their passion for the arts. Students expand their passion with instruction and master classes, field trips in Kansas City, and participate in a talent show and showcase.

Program tracks include vocal / instrumental music, creative media / writing, visual art / painting, and theater performance / acting.
