Building Better Lives through Excellence in Arts Education

Music/Arts Institute® is a vibrant, active member of the Kansas City Metro arts community, providing the highest quality music instruction through a variety of music lessons and programs at our historic Independence, Missouri campus for more than 30 years. We offer lessons for all strings, brass, woodwinds, piano, percussion, classical guitar, harp, and voice.

Earlier this year, we lost our founder Mrs. Millicent A. Daugherty.  The number of lives she touched is immeasurable.  Her influence upon the school  continues and her drive to provide the highest quality music education carries on with each student who enters the building as well as those who have moved on but carry the legacy of Music/Arts with them in their daily lives.

President's Welcome

This is an exciting time for Music Arts Institute - The Millicent A. Daugherty School of the Arts.  We continue to feel the spirit of Millicent and all those who have worked hard in the past to build better lives for our students through quality instruction in the arts.

As we turn the page on the future we are set to expand and grow those opportunities.  Our new Executive Director, Mark Lee brings a wealth of experience in music and management and our new Chairman of the Board James Lyen has the visionary and business background to keep our eyes on the future.

On behalf of our instructors and our board of directors,  I welcome you to a wonderful place....the music filled halls of Music Arts Institute.
